Troll was Awesomely Bad

You know how some movies are so bad their good, well the classic campy horror movie Troll definitely falls into that category.  Everything about this movie screams classic.  It featured Sonny Bono as swinging bachelor who gets attacked by a troll and pretty much blows up.  It also featured a young Julia Louis-Dreyfus.  The family in the movie has the last name Potter and the father and son are both named Harry.  That's right their both named Harry Potter.  Granted this movie came out in 1986 a full eleven years before the first Harry Potter book came out.  The film has horrible cheesy special effects, even for the '80s.  It has stars Phil Fonacaro, who you might recognize as the little person whose been in everything.  Just one look at his imdb page and you see what I mean, he played an ewok in Return of the Jedi, he was in an episode of Star Trek: Next Gen, he was in Willow, he played a carnie in the horribly campy '80s horror flick Ghoulies II, Roland in Sabrina The Teenage Witch, and an elf in The Polar Express.  Apparently he was also in some movie called Evil Bong, that sounds like it just might be so bad I'd need to see it.
For some reason this movie had a sequel and Troll 2 was even more awesomely bad than this one.  There has been a documentary made about Troll 2 entitled Best Worst Movie.  I think that says it all.
According to the internets, Troll is planning a remake of the movie now.  Any remake of it won't have of the redeeming qualities and it'll be just bad.

Movie Review:Visioneers was a Strange Dark Comedy

Visioneers is a very strange dark comedy.  It starred Zach Galifianakis as Washington Winsterhammerman a level 3 employee at the Jeffers Corporation.  George has an average life.  He is miserable.  He is in an unhappy marriage.  Add to that people start exploding due to unhappiness.  George starts having recurring dreams in which he is George Washington and becomes worried when a doctor tells him that is a symptom of impending explosion.  As the epidemic worsens and his dreams don't stop, George starts rethinking the life he has been living.  I have been a huge fan of Galifianakis's work for years and I heard of this movie two years ago when he talked about it online.  The film was very interesting.  For a dark comedy it wasn't very funny.  It's interesting to watch this after seeing Galifianakis in The Hangover because the two characters he plays are so different.  The film was very well made, but I it was nearly as enjoyable as I hoped.  I posted the trailer for the film below.

City Island was a great indie film that should have gotten more exposure

City Island was a very entertaining film with a great cast. Great performance by Andy Garcia.  This is probably my favorite of his films.  His character loved his amll community but it seems wants to secretly want to break free from it.  He works as a prison guard but wanted to try to be an actor and has secretly been taking an acting class.  Alan Arkin had an interesting role as Garcia's acting coach.  Alan Arkin played more of a realistic acting coach than you usually see in TV and films.  Usually acting coaches and acting classes are portrayed with ridiculous over acting.  Ezra Miller is once again great. Everything I see with Miller in it he plays pretty much the same character, but he does it so well. I liked how his character was really into fat chicks but the girl he likes thinks he's some ass-whole who makes fat jokes. You really don't see many teen characters who are really into fat chicks, especially when it is done in a since way. Julianna Margulies was good, but I've definitely seen her do better a better performance.  Her accent seemed forced at times.  Emily Mortimer really reminded me of Emily Watson.  I liked The big climax and it was very rewarding and very funny. This was a very well written film that should have gotten more exposure.  I don't think I even heard of this film until it was released on DVD.  The DVD cover is what initially struck me.

You'll notice I know have switched the font of my blog posts from Comic Sans to Tahoma.  Everyone always shits on Comic Sans and I like other fonts so I finally gave in and charged the font.

Jared Leto was creepy good as Mark David Chapman in Chapter 27

Chapter 27 is about Mark David Chapman and what he did in the last three days before he shot John Lennon 4 times in December 1980. Jared Leto was great and almost unrecognizable putting on so much weight to play Mark David Chapman. He looks eerily like Chapman in the film. The movie had it's flaws but it was still fairly good. I liked the idea of Chapman telling his story from the mental institution. I liked all the references to the Catcher in the Rye. I bet in those final three days before Chapman shot Lennon he really did make similar references to the book as he walked around Manhattan. I liked how the film was named Chapter 27 as if it was a continuation of Catcher in the Rye, which has 26 chapters. Lindsay Lohan was surprising ok, not great but OK. That's probably only because she didn't play a big character in the film, if she did she probably would have brutally killed the film.  It was really weird that the guy who portrayed Lennon was named Mark Lindsay Chapman.  I was disappointed with the ending though. He shots Lennon and then it ends. Right after the real Mark David Chapman shot Lennon he sat down on the sidewalk and started reading the Catcher in the Rye again. I wish the film would have continued just a little longer to show what Chapman did after he shot Lennon.  The scenes with the coffee shop guy were funny.

Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant try their hand at a more serious film with Cemetery Junction

I only rented Cemetery Junction because it said written and directed by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. Though I didn't enjoy it anywhere near as much of other work of theirs I've seen. They made names for themselves as brilliant comedy writer/actors but with this film they have successfully proved they can write a more serious film. I wasn't sure if I liked the film until the end when it finally came together.  Some of the deleted scenes were very funny.  I'm guessing they took them out to maintain the more serious tone most of the film had.  The scenes with the coffee shop guy were funny.  I give it 3 out of 5 stars, speaking of which I want to think of some new thing instead of stars to rate movies with, any suggestions?

The Chumscrubber tried to be a good indie film but fucked it up

The Chumscrubber was a lighter kind of Donnie Darko film. Some of the acting wasn't the greatest and some of the casting could have been better. Kind like a sick twist on Desperate Housewives. Where the film fails is in how it tries to mix Donnie Darko with Desperate Housewives. It tried to hard maintain both elements and ending failing at both. It is kind of like two films stuck together. If it was a film about the adults in town and how fucked up they are and how they don't really care about the kids it probably would have been good. If it was a film about the kidnapping plot and how fucked up the kids are it may have been a good film. However when they mixed them together they kind of half-assed it and it failed. The strange animation segments were just dump and really took away from the film as well. However at times I did enjoy it so I give it 2.5

Hot Tub Time Machine Was actually really funny

I just watched Hot Tub Time Machine and have decided to start posting film reviews again.  When I first heard of the film I really wanted to hate it. But I got to say it was really funny. The concept is utterly ridiculous but it's still really funny. Craig Robinson and Rob Corddry usually play supporting characters in their films and it's nice to see them playing leads. Clark Duke was funny, he usually is. In the end of the film all the guys had better lives because of what they changed in the past. But wouldn't there also be bad, possibly horrific, changes too when they returned to present?

If you have a choice between watching the "film" The House Bunny or watching paint dry, you're better off watching the paint dry

It was on one of the movie channels of TV and I figured, "It probably at least a little funny." Wow was I wrong. The whole time I was watching it I kept saying, "Well it cold have potential, it might get better". Then about 2/3 of the way through I just said, "This is it isn't it, there is no way this movie is going anywhere." The story was ridiculous and extremely predicable. It was just a sexed-up and crappy version of many similar movies about misfits in college. The cast was really off, although Anna Faris was perfectly cast. I hated Kat Dennings character, I actually like here but she was so wrong for that character. And was here a lesbian or not? It seemed like she was but after her makeover she kind of turned straight, which is a great message for kids isn't it? Then there was Emma Stone, I think this is the first movie of hers I've seen that I didn't like. She just seemed like she was over acting the whole time. And I was sad that Colin Hanks was in this, he actually could be a very good and much more respected actor if he didn't do such shitty movies. And Katharine McPhee should quit her day job because she isn't the greatest actress. Although maybe she should quit here day job because at the very end of the film she sung a song while the other girls danced around her and she sounded horrible. And what was with the giant manly farm girl? That character was just useless and really really stupid.

Youth in Revolt wasn't bad film

I just finished watching the film Youth in Revolt.  It wasn't necessarily what I expected, but it a was a very good film. I like this new breed of teen film. The movie had the perfect cast. Michael Cera was perfect for the role. His awkward persona can't go on forever though, there are only so many films he can play such similar characters.

I-See-You.com Might Not Have Been Worth Seeing

I just finished watching the movie I-See-You.com.  Well it was funny at times.  However, the acting wasn't spectacular.  The  casting wasn't great.  All the kids, who were supposed to be in high school, looked like there were all at least 25.  The story wasn't awesome, and was kind of predicable.  I'd heard of this movie before, and was kind of intrigued, but I was let down.  There is a reason most haven't heard of this movie.  I give it a 1.5 out if 5 stars.

Mystery Team was a fairly good movie

I just finished watching the film Mystery Team.  I heard of this movie a couple months ago and thought Donald Glover was pretty funny so I had to see it.  It was alright.  Donald Glover carried the entire movie with help from Aubrey Plaza, the other two guys weren't funny.  There were a few actual funny people with actual careers in this movie, someone must have owed Donald Glover a favor.  D.C. Pierson's character seemed like a Napoleon Dynamite rip-off who thinks he is a know-it-all.  The little kid who's mom is a stripper is awesome.  The film was kind of dumb, what that was the point.  I kind of hope that these guys don't make another movie though.  I think Donald Glover should do movies, maybe even with Aubrey Plaza, but the rest of the guys aren't really that funny.  I give this one a 3 out of 5 stars.

Urban Legends: The Final Cut was about as good as it looked

I just watched the film Urban Legends: The Final Cut.  I wasn't expecting much from this film which is good because it didn't really deliver much.  This film was definitely not as good as the first one.  The acting was great.  The plot was more ridiculous than the first.  I did like the girl in the beginning who was acting in everyone's horror film because she is a horrible actress and they tell her that.  I thought it was funny because most horror films feature sexy actress who are horrible actors.  I didn't like the ending, I thought it was dumb.  Although I got to say I didn't expect that person to be the killer.  I did like the very end though when they are at the awards ceremony and such.  Just now as I'm typing this I realized the joke in the title, clever.

What Alice Found is a SUB-PAR Indie Film

The other day at midnight I came across this movie entitled What Alice Found on IFC.  Interesting film, but basically a sub-par indie with an extreme shoe-string budget.  All amateur acting.  I found it to be a somewhat bland film.  However, I guessing they probably made this film on like a thousand dollar budget and considering that it could have been a lot worse I guess.    I give this film a 1.5 out of 5 stars.

Patton Oswalt is great in Big Fan

Yesterday I saw the film Big Fan.Great cast in a surprisingly entertaining film starring the hilarious Patton Oswalt in a somber role. The film, like Patton's character Paul Aufiero, struggles along but is still pretty entertaining hen its all over. The ending was surprising but very fitting.  I give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars.

the film Daybreakers is a Freash Twist on the Vampire Genre

I just finished watching the film Daybreakers.  It wasn't what I expected; I expected it to be a much darker film.  I was very pleased though.  Very interesting vampire film, they aren't vampire hunters, and the aren't cutesy vampires that just want to fight with werewolves for the love of a teenage human.  The film is about a vampire scientist who is tying to find an alternative to human blood who ends up helping a group of humans try to find a cure.  In a time when vampire movies usually suck, this was a fresh twist on the genre.  I give this film a 3.5 out of 5 stars.

The Unborn Would have Been a Classic Horror Film If Only They could have Found People Who Could Act

So I watched the movie The Unborn this afternoon.  This movie was actually better than I expected despite the fact Odette Yustman can't act. When I first saw the commercials for this movie over a year ago I thought it looked like another ridiculous modern horror film with horrible acting that would turn out to suck. I was right about the acting part, but movie was OK. But let's be honest how many horror films actually have good acting in them, the genre isn't really know to produce films with very good acting. This film had a rather interesting plot and the effects were pretty good. In the beginning of the film I immediately predicted the ending, but that didn't make it any less good, the ending was alright.  I give this film a 2.5 out of 5 stars.

Crazy Heart is the Film that Will Be Remember as Showing the World What We already Know: Jeff Bridges is awesome.

Well I just finished watching the film Crazy Heart.  I heard good things about this movie and thought it might be good, but I got to say I thought was movie was very good.  Jeff Bridges definitely deserved his Oscar, it's nice seeing him get the recognition he deserves.  The film is full of great actors.  Colin Farrell gave a surprisingly good performance.  I like Colin but he surprised me with this film.  The story was very good.  But the essence of the film is in Jeff Bridges and the incredible music.  I don't even like country music, but as a scene in the beginning of the film showed Bad Blake is the last of a dieing breed of real country musicians not the crapping watered down forced country music 90% of the artists play.  This film had some incredible music.  A highly recommend you watch this film if you haven't yet seen it.  And if you've already seem it, ah hell, then watch it again.  I gave this film a 5 out of 5 stars.

I might just start writing in here again...

I might just start writing in here again.  I graduated college today, or well I guess it was yesterday now.  So good for me.  I've been watching a lot of movies on TV and renting films too, and for a long time now I've been writing reviews on the Flixster app on Facebook.  I think I'm gonna start posting those reviews here too.  I just might be posting other stuff as well.

What I did this summer...

Wow I haven't written in here since July 22.  Every time I say I'm going start writing in here I never do, haha.  Well I start school in the morning.  Its my senior year of college, wow I feel old, haha.  I haven't really done anything all summer.  I went to Warped Tour in July.  I was supposed to go see Blink-182, Weezer, taking Back Sunday and Chester French this past Saturday in Hartford, CT.  But didn't go.  I really wanted to got to show since late May.  Two weeks ago I just said fuck it (literally I was alone in my room and I actually said out loud, "Oh fuck it") and bid on and won two tickets to go to the show on eBay.  But I had no one to go with me and thus I started to freak out.  One of my old friends said he might, and then he didn't give me an answer.  I called him last Wednesday because I was starting to worry, three days before the show, and he said his grandmother was in the hospital and he couldn't go.  I freaked out.  I couldn't think of anyone else to go with me and if I wanted to see them on eBay I only had less than three days to sell and ship them.  Then at like 7:30 pm I said screw it and put them on eBay.  I was relived after 20 minutes one person messaged me saying they might want them and then another messaged me and said if I added a Buy-It-Now they would pay $75, including shipping.  I added a Buy-It-Now and sold them.  But I still really wish I could have gone.  I have been doing whatever I can think of to make money.  I sold I shit load of stuff on eBay this summer.  I listed 200 items and made more than $748.28.  That's a lot.  I started writing articles on the articles on eHow.com.  the site is full of How-To articles.  You write articles on the sites and they pay you for the views your article gets.  I wrote 14 articles on the site.  I written anymore though because the site pissed me off.  They were having problems and I sent them three messages over three weeks and the over responded to the second two, which annoyed me.  Then I started thinking about how I bet this site probably generates tens of thousands of dollars in ad revue every month.  They can more than afford to hire a few more people to work at the site and then it won't have issues.  And when they did answer my messages their answers were really crappy.  Since I started writing these articles, my 14 articles have a combined 1123 views and according to eHow I have made zero dollars off of my articles.  They are trying to tell me 1123 views equals zero dollars.  How?  I bet they made money off of ad revue of my 1123 views.  (You can read my eHow articles by clicking here).  I also had a yard sale in June to make money, or maybe it was May.  I sold stuff at the Flea market twice this summer.  I have been getting stuff and bringing to this thift store in Leominster called Cutiques, I bring stuff then and when my stuff sells they give me a check.  My mom also discovered this place in Holden where everything is free.  She got me a whole bunch of cross stitch patterns there and I sold them for between $2.5 and $20 each.
When upgraded to Digital Cable in mid-July and ever since I have been watching a lot of movies.  I literally have watched about 50 movies since May.  That a lot for me.  And most of them were really good.  (You can read reviews of all the movies on the Flixter application on Facebook).  I also became addicted to the show Weeds.  I bough the first two seasons at a yard sale for $2 each and I LOVED the show.  I watched the first two seasons in like three days.  I then had to go buy season three because the cliffhanger at the end of season drove me crazy.  Then I had to go buy season four.  With each season I liked the show more.  When I finished watching season four I started re-watching the DVDs.  Then when I finished watching season four I freaked because season five is on TV now and wouldn't go on sale until June of next year, I checked Amazon.  I really wish we got Showtime so I could watch the new season, but Showtime is an extra $10 a month and if I wait I can buy all of season five for like $20 next year.  Last week I was at my great-aunt's house and she gets Showtime and has On Demand so I was able to watch the first one and a half episodes of season five.  I also four books since the beginning of May.  That is a lot of books for me.  I usually read like maybe 2 books a year. You can see a list of all the movies I watched and books I read by clicking here.

Milk was Amazing

I rented the film Milk today out of the RedBox and it was one of the best films I've ever seen.  I had wanted to see it for a while, I thought I might possibly like it.  I loved it.  The cast was amazing.  Sean Penn by far deserved the Oscar for Best Actor this year.  I really really like Sean Penn.  I haven't seen too too many of his films, but every film I've seen him in he was amazing in.  I loved him I am Sam too.  Josh Brolin's performance was incredible.  James Franco was awesome.  Brolin and Franco put so much emotion into their characters.  The look in Harvey's eyes was so powerful.  When I first saw Lucas Grabeel as Danny Nicoletta, I was unsure how he would be.  I was like "Isn't that the kid from High School Musical?"  But he really surprised me and did a really good performance.  They showed a real pictures of many of the main characters and the many of the actors actually looked like the real life people they portrayed, especially Milk.  Sean Penn looked a lot like Harvey Milk.  This film was just awesome.  Within the first 15 minutes of the film I immediately knew I would love it.  I cannot praise this film enough.  I just loved the whole style of the film, having Harvey Milk in a way narrate the story.  I loved how they wove actually footage of the period into the film.  In the end of the film I knew it was coming, but that scene with Harvey Milk and Dan White in White's office was still riveting.  I seriously, seriously recommend everyone see this film.  I watched the special features and they were just as incredible.  It was really interesting to see that they actually included many of the actual people from the story n the film, most of them had small roles in the background, but still.  Very few films actually move me.  If you actually really know me, and I know most of you don't, you'd know that I am NOT a very sensitive or emotional person at all.  This film moved me.
Honestly the only other film that has moved me like this was I am Sam (also starring Sean Penn).  That is another film I recommend you see.     That film is about a mentally retarded man's struggle's to keep custody of his daughter.  I've actually never told this story, as some of you know my younger sister is mentally retarded and the first time I watched I am Sam she was sitting with me.  It was just the two of us in my room.  She usually won't sit through many actual non-children's movie, she will usually either fall asleep or start fussing.  She stayed awake the whole time and didn't make a peep.  I honestly think she enjoyed it just as much as I did, although she can't talk so I won't actually know.  After the two us finished watching it, I just hugged her and sat with her for a while.  That film really just got to me.  My mom really liked the film What's Eating Gilbert Grape.  That movie was good, however I thought Sean Penn did a better portrayal of a person with mental retardation and the story was better.
Any one who really knows me knows I never talk like I did in this post.  I don't know, I just feel like it.  I also know probably no one will read this, but I just felt like writing this and saying what I've said.
